RATO WEEK 1 (again): We’re back

Hello!
Did you miss me?
As anticipated I’m back after a quick “vacation” at home in Florence. My time at home was both relaxing, stressful and boring: it was nice seeing my family again, I got super stressed in the process of preparing for my return and I spent most of my days with nothing much to do. While in Florence during my strolls around the city center I visited by chance Chiesa di Orsanmichele and I really recommend it if you happen to find yourself in the city, not only for the stunning gothic tabernacle by Andrea Orcagna, but for the amazing 360° view from the second floor they recently opened.
Here are some pictures…forgive me for the bad lighting but the weather sucked.

Florence’s central train station and I share
the same initials

Something I learned about myself through all this back and forth it’s that I hate travelling, not the time spent far from home per se, which I actually really enjoy, but the actual transportation part. It stresses me out so much. Luckily my trip here was pretty chill and uneventful, especially compared to the series of misadventures I had when going back home (wrong bus, wrong terminal, wrong train ticket, I got body-searched at the boarding pass and for the first time in my life they asked me to measure my luggage, that barely passed the test).

When I arrived at the volunteer’s apartment I was welcomed with apple cider, cake (courtesy of Martins) and a movie, during which I almost fell asleep multiple times from the tiredness of the trip, but it was really nice.
My second day began with Portuguese class, where we helped Herminia with the preparations for st. Valentine day. For the occasion we decided, us volunteers, to do a secret gift exchange with a budget of 5 euros, we’ll see how it goes…
The afternoon went by as usual, but, even though it wasn’t anything outside of the ordinary routine, it felt special. I really missed the coffee after lunch with all the people from the office.

This being said I’m not quite sure what this new project it’s gonna hold for me, but I’m excited.

See you next week,
Sofia

PS: For this new series of blog posts I promise I’m gonna improve my WordPress knowledge and implement new features and styles, so if you see something weird it’s because I’m experimenting.

PPS. Hope you enjoyed the view of Lisbon from the plane in the thumbnail. Since the pilot made us fly in a circle a couple of times before landing I had the chance to take a couple of photos.
