Belém (Portuguese pronunciation: [b??l????]), whose name is derived from the Portuguese word for Bethlehem, is the southwesternmost civil parish (called freguesia) of the municipality of Lisbon. Until 2012, the area of Belém had its own historic parish, named Santa Maria de Belém. Many of Portugal’s distinctive buildings and landmarks are located in this area, including the Jerónimos Monastery and the Tower of Belém. If you want you can check the right position here.
The last weekend Nuno, our super boss here in Rato, drive us to visit this beautiful place. It was very interested to visit the igreja outside the monastery and the garden of the Museu Coleção Berardo.
On the other side of the Monastery, by the river, there is also a beautiful monument called Padrão dos Descobrimentos, dedicated to Portuguese discoveries in XV and XVI sec.
But one of my favourite place in Belem is definitely the pasteleria Pasteis de Belem: this is one of the most famous and ancient pastelerias in Lisbon where you can taste one of the best portuguese pastel de nada. I’m really in love with this sweet and I’m my opinion it was delicious! So happy to visited Belém.
