Another impressions about Portugal and Lisboa. It took a lot of time until I really appreciated the city. And still I would not say it is a beautiful city. Interesting, intriguing, alive. And these objectives match whole Portugal as well. Walk around Lisboa. Beautiful, narrow streets change easily into streets full of cars and blocks without any charm at all. Only twice turn to right and again we can take a picture of laundry outside the windows of tenements houses. We are reaching square with fancy, touristic restaurants and ornate tiles on the walls. But on the other side of that space there are run-down buildings with mountains of rubbish. The street next to the fancy restaurants is the street of beggars and poor people. Let’s go further. While enjoying undiscovered, solitude and extremely narrow street I bumped into guy who peed on the pavement. One of my first trips to Lisbone? I was offered weed and cocaine on the street, I saw the huge argument and nearly the violence between couple with child in the metro station and one girl’s foot got stuck in the train which already started to go. Yes, that trip lasted about 6 hours.
But let’s focus on word alive. Streets of Portugal are always full of people. As I wrote with dogs, in pastelarias, snack bars or cervajarias. And not only tourists. But people. Every “kind” of people. Tourists, beggars, dealers, rich and poor inhabitants. You never know who you will meet but always know that you will meet somebody. The sound of laugh, arguments, fado concerts combine all together. Interesting. Intriguing. Alive.
Let’s move to section funny (at least for me) situation from daily life.
One evening we went for a walk to Miratejo praia. After that Luca asked me how it was. So I tell him how disgusting and full of trash that beach is, that I hate this thousands of sand fleas that jump around feet, the smell was horrible and I will never go there again. Ok, he went back to kitchen. There Magda started to talk to him ho wonderful walk we had, that we saw people looking for the mussels in the river and how amazing the view was. So a little confused he came back to me and asked, are we sure that we were together in the same place? So it’s funny how different impressions might be.
Other story. I do not know if anybody ever tried to google the same things in different languages and look for the graphics but it may be surprisingly. All starts with arguments if puma is black or beige and does panther have dots. Yes, probably we have some lacks from elementary school or did not read The Jungle Book carefully enough. So after long discussion or even little argument we move to strong proofs: google. So Luca search and proved us wrong. But I did not believe him. Come on I am polish, I am right. And after few days we searched again. In polish this time. And you know, me and Magda were right. Yes it seems that species of animals is not so global issue as we could it consider. Italian pnther and polish panther it’s not the same panther.
Latterly I spent extremely much time on the praia so of course no matter the topic I will put the pictures I have.
Ate breve!
