I used to read books in my free time (oh well, in my busy time too) and since I dont judge the authors by theirs origins, I read books written by people from all over the world.
Maybe it’s because of my patriotism or it’s just an objective matter of high quality, I really like polish books. I noticed, that polish authors tend to break the typical patterns with darker and more extraordinary ideas and these features I value the most.
One of my favourite genre is science fiction and I am happy to announce that Poland was bleessed with one of, in my opinion, best sc-fi creator ever – Stanislaw Lem, whose most pieces of work is a masterpiece worth checking (I haven’t read all of them though but I’m on my way!). There is no alien fights or unnecessary high-technology gabbing – it’s strongly philosophical image of human exploring the unknown. The books I recommend the most:
1)”The Invincible“
2) “Solaris” (there was a movie based on this book! I mean, in theory, because the most common thing in both medium is the title).
Another masterpiece I want to tell you about is written by Andrzej Sapkowski. I guess some of you might have heard about The Witcher – the brilliant books, then games, then Netflix series about the rejected yet highly skilled in sword fighting, white-haired gentleman who solves humans problems with onerus monsters. I personaly don’t like fantasy books, but this series made me fall in love with the absolutely reliable characters, the elaborated history and atmospheric world, where evil is not obvious and good is not always flawless. Go and start with:
1)”The Last Wish” – You won’t regret it.
Because of the brand new Netflix series, I am about to re-read The Witcher and I am absolutely excited!
