You may or may not like modern art. You may like to or may not like to go to museums to see paintings of famous artist. You may like to or may not like to draw, paint or make something from the clay. But for sure you noticed at least something painted on the wall at the corner on your street, didn´t you? If so, you are lucky, because this kind of art has a strong tendency to dissaper suddenly.
What is street art really? Is it really an art? For some that is an art but for some it may be a vandalism. The border between them sometimes may be really thin.
Do you know who Banksy is? He is a world famous street artist who is actually anonymous. But that is obviously not the reason why he is famous. His art comments on social and political events / problems, is visible all over the world and can be controversial if it touches on delicate aspects such as conflict, consumerism, and poverty. So there is always something else in his works. If you want to see his work, visit his official instagram profile.
But there are many, many artists who are not anonymous and have many good works all over the world. There are many techniques that may vary. Pasting, templates, tags, texts, murals, posters, installations and much, much more, whatever creativity suggests.
When I get to a new place, I mostly look at the walls. For me, street art is the face of the local community. When you look at wall that has street art on it, you are looking at a society that lives nearby. Emotions, opinions and dreams of local people are on the wall. They share also their point of view on the walls.
In the neighborhood I found many nice works that I want to share with you. During that tour I got some knowledge about portuguese writers such as: Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Almada Negreiros and Luís de Camões. Before I came to Portugal I didn’t know anything about portuguese literature.
