Seville and Cádiz checked. What´s next?

Hello!!

So, one month has officially passed!

One month, two countries, few new friends and 25 more days left. Among them my birthday.

As I mentioned in my previous article, me and one of my flatmates went on a 3-day trip to Spain. During our stay we saw two cities in Andalusia – Seville and Cádiz. The temperature that welcommed us there was probably the highest I have ever experianced. 38 degrees. Hot as hell. But even despite the temperature we walked around 20 kilometres a day – 60 km in total.

Seville – the bigger one from the cities we have visited, but in my opinion less charming, was the first one we visited during our trip. The capital city of the autonomous community of Andalusia is known as the owner of the biggest cathedral in the world – The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See or, just Seville Cathedral, General archive of the Indies where the archival documents presenting the history of Spanish Empire in its colonies in both Americas and Philippines are stored; The Royal Alcázars of Seville – a royal palace built for the king Peter of Castile and an example of Mudéjar architecture with Gothic, Renaissance and Romanesque elements. What is Mudéjar? It´s a Spanish architectural style, born out of combination of Islamic and Christian elements. All of them UNESCO-listed.

Cádiz, on the other hand, 10 times smaller than Seville, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the Western Europe located on the peninsula seperating the Gulf of Cádiz from the Atlantic Ocean. Lies on an island separated from the mainland by the narrow Caño de Sancti Pedri Canal. But it wasn´t like that from the beginning. The historic city of Cádiz was located on a small archipelago, but after the waters´regulation, all the islets became one bigger island. Cádiz is surrounded from the north, west and south by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and from the east by the waters of the Gulf of Cádiz. That´s why the city is known by its great beaches (from the Ocean side), where, as far I as I know from our Spanish host, citizens of – above mentioned – Seville (122 km away from Cádiz) go there willingly during summer weekends.

He also recommended us our next travel destination – Algarve – amazed by its unbelievablly beautiful beaches and landscapes. But about it in the next article 🙂
