The Most Western Point of Europe

Olá, bom dia! Being a volunteer in Portugal is so amazing! There are lots of things to discover, especially for me – who has traveled from one end of Europe to the other.

.

Last week on Tuesday, we saw flamingos on the way to Portuguese class after the weekly meeting. In the evening, we went to Lisbon to listen to a  jazz concert.

.

I can say that Thursday was the day I had the most difficulty so far. There was training about smartphones for senior citizens and my duty was to help them. But it was very difficult, because I don’t speak Portuguese and they don’t speak English. Yet somehow we communicated!

.

We started mentoring sessions with Laura on Friday and I liked it from the very first time! I think it will be very useful for us to express ourselves better, to discuss what we can provide more to Rato-ADCC, and to develop ourselves.

.

On Saturday, we held a workshop where we learned about the Audacity program. I like learning new things very much. After the workshop, I finally completed the drawings I made for the Russian Alphabet video that Anna will prepare.

.

We woke up very early on Sunday and hit the road. We were very excited because we were going hiking to the most western point of Europe. We went to Cabo da Roca with Magda – she is a former volunteer in Rato-ADCC. We walked from Cabo da Roca to the north. There was a lot of wind, but the temperature was still nice.

.

.

We spent time at Adraga Beach (Praia da Adraga). It was a very pleasant place, but the waves were huge and after a while the wind got very strong.

.

Then we went to Sintra by bus. There are lots of  nice hand-crafted things to buy along the road. After visiting Sintra for a while, we arrived in Lisbon by train.

.

.

Instead of returning home, we did what we always do: We sat in Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara with Pastel de Nata and beers. That day we took 30.000 steps.
