Jah Moment #2, CSS Workshop, and New Tools!

Last weeks in Rato were quite busy. Since my post about Jah Moment’s first day, we had a second Jah Moment in 23th April. I prepared another poster for it. The Jah Moment activities were in Casa Amarela. Casa Amarela is a youth center close to our apartment. We were wondering about that place a lot and we weren’t even sure if it’s open or not. Having the Jah Moment workshops in a different place was so cool. Because we like that new atmosphere. There we had a photography and sewing workshop. Photography workshop was held by Gonçalo and it was quite interesting. First he told some theoretical information and then showed some examples. After this teaching part he asked us to take two different pictures: first one should have a blurry background and second one should show the movement. Nuno was our photo model and the workshop was so much fun! Then we had a sewing workshop. It wasn’t exactly what I had imagined but it was okay.

Rato-ADCC has an embroidery machine and they asked me to try it. I jumped right into this request! First I watched some tutorials/videos on youtube to learn the machine and not make any mistakes with the machine. Then I embroidered some words to see how the machine works and check its settings. First embroidered words didn’t come up nicely, so I changed some settings and now it works so well. Also we bought new threads for embroidery, because the ones we had weren’t for embroidery machines and they made the machine stop. But now everything is well. Embroidery machine has its own designs/drawings, but I want to learn how to digitize my own drawings for embroidery. Once I will learn it, then I can plan a workshop about it.

Last Friday of every month,we have our monthly sessions with Laura. For April’s monthly session, she wanted to talk about Youthpass Certificate and key competencies. I knew some key competences from my previous Erasmus+ projects but that day Laura told us 8 competencies:
1. Multilingual competence
2. Personal, social and learning to learn competence
3. Citizenship competence
4. Entrepreneurship competence
5. Cultural awareness and expression competence
6. Digital competence
7. Mathematical competence
8. Literacy competence

We thought about all the competencies and our evaluation since we came to Portugal. We did this session all together, it wasn’t a one-to-one meeting, so we shared our evaluation and thoughts on competencies with each other. I liked this session, because it was a great chance to think about our competencies, our evaluation, and how to develop ourselves more.

On 30th April, we had a CSS workshop held by Tiago. Before that I didn’t even know what CSS is and what it is for. We wrote some codes and we could see how those codes changed the website’s layout design. I tried to do both coding and taking notes, but it was difficult to do two things at the same time.I learned some CSS and had so much fun doing it. I believe these kinds of workshops are so important to show people new things and what they can do.

That week Tiago was asked me to give some suggestions about drawing tablets. So I searched lots of tablets and prepared a list. He ordered the tablets that I recommended. The tablets reached us on Saturday after the workshop. I was so excited to try them out! Tiago called me “kid” because I was happy like a child with a new toy. Anna and I tried graphic tablets (they are One by Wacom, medium size). At first it was so hard to use them, but after a while I got used to using them, and my eye-hand coordination got better.
