Photography Workshops

Photography is a beautiful form of art that can capture the essence of a moment in a single image. It can be used to tell stories, express emotions, and even change the way people think. Learning how to take a good photo can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience, and that is exactly what a group of students at the high school had the chance to do during a series of photography workshops.

The workshops were run by Gonçalo and I was kind of the support person. First Gonçalo presented various types of cameras and their basic use to the students. They showed how to attach a lens, where to insert batteries and a memory card, and how to turn on and operate the camera. This was an important first step in learning how to take great photos, as it is crucial to understand the equipment you are using and how it works.

After this, Gonçalo explained some of the rules and principles that photographers should stick to in order to take a good photo. These included things like the rule of thirds, which suggests that the most important elements in a photo should be positioned along imaginary lines that divide the image into thirds. Other tips included paying attention to lighting, focusing on the subject, and experimenting with different angles and perspectives.

Once the students had a good understanding of the basics, it was time to put theory into practice. Everyone was given a camera and had the opportunity to go out and take pictures around the school or outside. This was a fun and exciting way to apply what they had learned and to see the world through a different lens.

The photography workshops at the high school were not only a fun way to learn and practice, but also an opportunity to develop important skills that can be applied in many different areas of life. Whether you want to capture memories of your family and friends, or pursue a career in photography, learning the basics of photography is a great first step.
