On experiencing Almada

Oho! It has already been one week since I’m here! Let me give you a quick recap of what happened during that time:

  • After talking with people in RATO we decided to adjust some of my practices I was already doing in Poland and based on that, create a conversation circles for people in this organization that will help with clear communication, active listening and sense of belonging. It’s a very delicate and tender type of work so I’ll be trying my best to facilitate process in RATO as smooth as possible. Im excited to combine skills I already have with new environment that is here.
  • When I first thought of moving to Portugal, one of my first connotation was ocean. It was my little dream- to pick some shells and get my legs wet there. And I did it! Durning last weekend me and and other volunteers of RATO went to the beach to swim. It was lovely. The waves weren’t that big, sun was shining and wind gave us some time to cool down. Connected to that- it was a full moon that day! I don’t know if any of you saw it, but it was a strawberry moon (It was pink!). The view was amazing.
  • Despite some troubles I’ve managed to get my transportation card! It means I can freely move around Lisbon. Last monday me and Sarah went there and I had a chance to see beautiful places that Lisbon has to offer. We visited the oldest bookstore in the world, went to a view point where we could see almost all Lisbon.
Sarah and me sending you kisses
  • I’ve started preparing workshop regarding Queer Community (basics of LGBTQ+). For the almost past 2 years I’ve been working with queer youngsters, I’m excited to share knowledge I gained. Since RATO is working with basically everyone (including queer youth) it’s important to know the basic inclusive language etc. Connected with that I’m learning a lot about LGBTQ+ community in Portugal and there are some things that surprise me- did you know that only 36% of people are now often or always have been open about being queer?

Slowly, but surely adjusting to hot weather.

Till the next week,
