Eu darei algumas informações com base na minha experiência e ideias pessoais, incluindo os de outros. Sem stress, em inglês =)
My Portuguese not that bad and not that good as well while writing, and reading of course. But since it is an international hub about volunteering and youth works, I prefer and support writing in English. I also do not want to cheat by using translation a lot. I only checked the word “incluindo” and the rest are mine own knowledge =)
So, it is actually a really long topic but I will try to shorten by writing item by item without a lot of explanations. It will be three parts, and the second is going to be
” Volunteering – II : What It Is Not“
So, lets start the first article of the serie by writing what is volunteering on my side.
Volunteering is:
– Dedication,
– Devotion,
– Perseverance,
– Being on the struggle bus,
– Fighting against the inequalities,
– Dealing with many different and really hard situations,
– Bearing even clashing against many people (youngsters and seniors),
– Burn your daylight saving from your family for other people,
– Postpone your own life for others,
– Trying to figure out new struggles to produce new solutions,
– Spending from your pocket while you are earning really less,
– Sharing good and bad,
– Communication,
– Responsibility,
– Being a human,
etc.
Really, while doing all these above and more, you are earning really less. Earning less is not only about the money. If you are doing this job, you already surely know that you are not going to be rich. The people you help are not treating you properly sometimes. Because even those who are in need consider your kindness as weakness, and that you have to work for them. To be honest, I have not gotten this here except a few rare occasions. But it is valid even in these kind of works, and it is not only from the people you are helping out, but also other volunteers as well. Anyway, this is not supposed to consist negativeness but it is what it is =)
If you ask me to tell you one word, I would say it is a “journey”, a good one that evolves and improves you in many ways since you lower your expectations with an open heart, and it gives you some surprises.
I can surely write here much more than this, but as I said it should be a summary. I will continue on the next one.
