Everyday something new

My adventures this week started with the Portuguese language lessons. I met a wonderful lady with an amazing smile and even cooler-looking eyeliner. I learned a couple new phrases. Some new words. That day I gained two more friends, which made this week even more colorful.

But my language lessons weren’t the only fun thing I did this week. In these few days, I have been working in “Carlos’s Cave” (or Oficina as others might call it).  I got to work with transistors, cables, computer fans, and screws. Oh, how I screwed up by being so enthusiastic about sorting screws! I can say with certainty that I will never blindly agree to sort screws again!

Every week here I learn something new, but this week I spent every day soaking up some knowledge that I know for sure I’m going to use outside Rato.

I also got to be in a classroom again. As always, I enjoyed that a lot. It doesn’t get old seeing kids be interested in what they are hearing, to see them actively participate, take part, and take initiative in a conversation. It gives hope.

My work week ended with pushing pins. I haven’t done this before. It was teamwork. I learned how to assemble pins from start to finish.  And while doing it I was humming my favorite songs. For a moment I wanted to give up because we had to make 500 pins, but my awesome team kept me going.

This has been my week- filled with new knowledge and challenges!
