Salve gente,
you already know the drill so andiamo al sodo.
On Monday we decided to go to the beach and, after choosing Praia Da Mata as our destination followed by somewhat of a difficult start (we got on the wrong bus, and it was my fault), we finally managed to get there.
Even though the weather wasn’t excellent, we really enjoyed our time there. I was actually genuinely surprised by how much I liked it since I’ve never been a very beach-lover kind of person. On this occasion though, walking by the water and picking up shells, while also admiring the numerous surfers challenging the waves, was very nice and it made me want to go back soon.
As a foreigner coming to Portugal from a country that’s close geographically and not so different culturally it’s interesting to see what holidays, out of the ones they share with Italy, are perceived as more important.
For example, I’ve only celebrated carnival as a kid, but here it’s taken way more seriously, we have a rest day for Terça-feira Gorda and all over the country colorful parades are being organized. On the other hand, the 26th of December in Italy it’s a festive day and most italians don’t have work, while here it was just a normal office day.
Last time I properly celebrated Carnival in Italy I dressed up as Juliet (I was six), sadly this time no dressing up was required because we decided to spend our time by going on an adventure instead. So, taken the necessary supplies (we forgot most of the important stuff), we headed to Ponta dos Corvos to have a barbeque. Reaching the destination required us an hour of walking and more than lunch it ended up being a very early dinner, but the food was good and the company made it worth it.
For what concerns the other days of the week, they passed quietly and without surprises as we engaged in our usual routines. (Un)fortunately this is just the calm before the storm because March is going to be a month full of activities and soon we won’t have time to complain about the boredom.
