Fantastic facts and where to find them

It’s been a while since my arrival and from the beginning I’ve been interested in Portuguese culture and language. I started searching for inspirations for writing posts and places to visit. Most of the information was of course found on the internet but not all of them.

The following are six main sources I used :

  1. Blogs

I found a few blogs of people who visited or live in Portugal. There are some in Polish and English as well. I didn’t know there were so many Polish people living in Portugal! I found a lot of useful information like where to go and when, where to buy things or what places to visit. They often show you some hidden gems that I would not have discovered myself.

  1. Pinterest

On Pinterest I usually search for recipes or DIY ideas. I have a few ideas of making Portuguese recipes but probably I will change it a bit to make it healthier. Also, I have made a list of a few amazing places I’d like to visit after the lockdown in Portugal.

  1. Instagram

I think most, if not all of the volunteers who have been here, seen at least a few iconic tram photos from Lisbon on Instagram. I’ve seen a lot before I even came here, but I never realised they were from Lisbon or a close area.

  1. Articles

I read articles about things I want to visit or the ones I already visited. I like to know the history of buildings or the places I go to. I read about the stories behind the beautiful monuments, and I’m impressed by the people who made them. I want to know the meaning of little details of what I am looking at.

  1. Groups

I joined a few groups of people who live in Portugal and they know most of the information I need, even where to find some Polish products that are not very common here. I can also find information about restrictions and the pandemic situation in Portugal. Of course, they are not always good, so I check with the updates on the government website.

  1. Other volunteers

A Lot of the knowledge I have about Lisbon and Portugal in general I got from other volunteers. They are always happy to answer my questions or tell me about the places we’re visiting. They share it with me anytime we are talking and I am happy I can have some of the knowledge of their experiences.
