During my first week as a RATO volunteer I got to visit numerous places, try out a tone of delicious food and listen to diverse music. You can basically hear music on every street of Lisboa. In order to learn more about the music genres here and hear what music the local youth listens to, I went with my new friends to the festival called “Out Jazz”.
Out Jazz takes place every Sunday from May to September at the city´s biggest parks. With the objective of inviting young people to enjoy and get to know the gardens of Oeiras, admission is free. Although the name of the festival might suggest it is an event that stages jazz, it is not all about jazz. It also includes elements of soul, funk and hip-hop. From 5 pm until sunset, local artistis like Leon Baldesberger’s Meersalz, Gira, José Dias feat Melo D, OORT, Vampiro Submarino, along several other artists and bands, perform, providing us with unforgettable memories.
It was an amazing experience, especially since I hadn’t been to any festivals in a long time. Out Jazz was a great initiative. The fact that there aren’t many free and open events like it in my home country, made me enjoy the event even more. The DJ Jamaimoi delivered an unforgettable performance and we had A LOT of fun. I am definitely going to be attending Out Jazz as often as I will be able to.
