Celebrating the 4th of July at Taco Bell

I feel connected to the American nation as in 2022 I lived in the States for almost a year. In Portugal nobody is going to set off fireworks on the 4th of July – the day of American independance, however I decided to celebrate it in my own way since this country makes up a part of my identity.

The most American thing that I am able to find here are all of the fast food restaurants. I usually don´t eat fast food but it doesn´t feel unhealthy to do it de vez em quando. The fast food restaurant that gives off the best American vibe is “Five guys”, however it´s not available in Portugal.

Then I remembered how excited I was when I found out that Portugal has Taco Bell, which I still haven´t been to since the day I left America in 2022. Taco Bell was in my TOP 3 favorite fast food restaurants in the U.S. along with Chick-Fil-A and Culver´s. Taco Bell offers mostly Mexican food, but so do multiple other restaurants in the States. I have missed Taco Bell a lot!

It´s slightly ironic that I picked Taco Bell as the place to celebrate the 4th of July at because most Americans do not love it. As my host mom would say “Taco Bell is the perfect place to go to at 4 am when everything else is closed”.

This year´s 4th of July happened to take place on a Tuesday, which is perfect because Taco Bell does Taco Tuesdays, where I can get my favorite taco – TACO CRUNCHY SUPREME for 1€ only!

The tacos were amazing. We also tried a burrito and quesadilla, which turned out to be delicious as well. I feel like I just become a frequent customer of Taco Bell here!!!
