This week we had an online training about how to use html files. We learned how they work, how to make modifications in a program and change codes of some parts of a website. Since the coding language is all Greek to me, I have to learn the CSS language from scratch. So yes, for now I am learning two new languages, soon I will be able to talk to Portuguese people and computers. I know my knowledge in this topic is very limited compared with all of the languages of programming but I’m looking forward to new tasks. Practice makes perfect, so they say.
I didn’t expect I would learn so many practical skills during this project and I am very thankful for that. I imagine the way this project must be very different from the normal (Pre-Covid) ones. To be honest, I imagine it’s probably the same for any other ESC projects out there. Nonetheless, I have learnt a lot anyway, so maybe that’s the Dystopian future of learning? Anyway, now we have more ‘free’ time to learn new things. Of course everyone misses the good old days when we lived without any restrictions. Those were the days when we got to explore and visit places we like. Sadly, we will have to live like this reality for a bit longer but I haven’t lost hope yet. I still believe that someday all the restrictions will be lifted, and I will be able to have the same ESC experience just like the volunteers before me.
Although learning new things isn’t easy, I believe they are going to be useful for my future. There is no doubt these skills are important nowadays for my career or I might even be required to do some similar activities at university. I want to keep learning CSS as well as continue learning programs I have had the chance to use so far. I enjoy doing all of the tasks I get but I think my favourite is making videos and doing language exercises. I have to admit most of the things we are learning and working with are new for me but I guess that’s what ESC is essentially about: stepping out of my comfort zone.
